A JEWEL IN THE ARABIAN SEA

SOCOTRA

The yemeni island of Socotra is one of the most isolated landforms on Earth of Continental origin. The island is isolated and home to a high number of endemic species – a true jewel of biodiversity. Socotra is one of the world’s last truly wild places with a uniquely diverse and enchanting landscape of surreal beauty.

Socotra is a remnant of the supercontinent Gondwana, which existed approximately 550 - 100 million years ago. The island's geological formations and landscapes, combined with its many endemic plant and animal species, sends us back to prehistoric times.

The iconic dragon blood tree is one of the island's endemic plants.

STARLING MURMURATIONS

BLACK SUN

Søren has followed the migratory flight paths of starlings across Europe to capture the extraordinary patterns made by their murmurations in the sky. The starlings move as one unified organism that vigorously opposes any outside threat. Not only a strong visual expression. This unique ephemeral phenomenon bears witness to an incredible collective intelligence.

"TRANSFIXED BY BEAUTY OF STARLINGS IN FLIGHT"

Black Sun has been exhibited in galleries and museums in Denmark, Japan, Spain, Australia and USA, and two international bestselling coffee table books, Black Sun and Starling, have been published to high critical acclaim in renowned media outlets worldwide.

CONSCIOUSNESS IN A MAGICAL KINGDOM

BHUTAN

Bhutan is unique in the world as a nation where collective consciousness, spirituality, and well-being are embedded in state structures. It is known for its policy of Gross National Happiness, and for its living Buddhist tradition, in which consciousness is considered the foundation of all knowledge and reality.

In this ongoing project, Søren explores Bhutan's nature and culture of consciousness through his photography. The series entails portraits of individuals who embody different relationships to consciousness and awareness, as well as photography of buddhist practices and of the captivating landscapes.
